This study examined the measured levels of trait emotional intelligence (TEI) as it related to the academic engagement behaviours of students, as well, the effect on persistence and student retention rates. The primary purpose of this research was to focus in greater depth on the non-academic aspects of student success and persistence, and provide a more extensive understanding of the nature and description of the non-academic capabilities of students that effect their motivation, goal setting and active participation in the academic process. The Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form (TEIQue-SF) (Petrides, 2009) was used to measure the TEI levels of first year students. The second survey, measuring engagement, integrated questions from the Youth in Transition Survey (YITS) post-secondary engagement roster (Statistics Canada, 1998- 2011) and eight academic self-efficacy questions utilized by Chemers, Hu and Garcia (2001).

In today's highly dynamic and rapidly changing environment, global competition among organizations has led to higher demands on the manufacturing organizations. With increased global competition, attention has been shifted from increasing efficiency by means of economies of scale and internal specialization to meeting market conditions in terms of flexibility, delivery adherence, manufacturing performance and quality assurance. In the highly competitive environment, to be successful and achieving world-class-manufacturing, organizations must possess both efficient maintenance practices and effective manufacturing strategies. Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is an innovative approach to plant maintenance that is complementary with Total Quality Management (TQM), Just-in-Time Manufacturing (JIT), Total Employee Involvement (TEI), Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI) and other world-class strategies. TPM harnesses participation of all the employees to improve production equipment availability, performance, quality, reliability and safety. The present research work highlights the contributions of strategic TQM-TPM initiatives on manufacturing performance.

DiverCity - Global Cities as a Literary Phenomenon

Based on the structured analysis of selected North American novels, this work examines global cities as a literary phenomenon (»DiverCity«). By analyzing Dionne Brand's Toronto, »What We All Long For« (2005), Chang-rae Lee's New York, »Native Speaker« (1995), and Karen Tei Yamashita's Los Angeles, »Tropic of Orange« (1997), Melanie U. Pooch provides the connecting link for exploring the triad of globalization and its effects, global cities as cultural nodal points, and cultural diversity in a globalizing age as a literary phenomenon. Thus, she contributes to a global, interdisciplinary, and multi-perspectival understanding of literature, culture, and society. Melanie U. Pooch received her doctoral degree at the University of Mannheim, Germany. Her research interests include Corporate Responsibility and North American cultural, urban, and literary studies in a globalizing age.

The explosive popularity of the Internet as a business tool has created a new type of economy, which is called Technology-Enabled Information Economy (TEI). Impacts and Risk Assessment of Technology for Internet Security Enabled Information Small-Medium Enterprises (TEISMES) investigates TEI, discovering the opportunities and challenges presented by TEI to the new form of small medium enterprises (SME). This emerging economy is bringing with it new forms of TEI intermediation, online businesses, virtual supply chains, rapidly changing internet-electronic commerce technologies, increasing knowledge intensity, and unprecedented sensitivity of the time-to-market by customers. Impacts and Risk Assessment of Technology for Internet Security Enabled Information Small-Medium Enterprises (TEISMES) also identifies ways of minimizing risk liability of TEISME business operations as a result of their dependence on TEI (Internet-eC). The rapid evolution and spread of information technology (IT) during the last few years is challenging SMEs, governments and internet security professionals to rethink the very nature of risk exposure. Impacts and Risk Assessment of Technology for Internet Security Enabled Information Small-Medium Enterprises (TEISMES) is designed for a professional audience of researchers and practitioners in industry. This book is also suitable for graduate-level students in computer science. TOC:Preface.- Research Overview and Technologies for Internet Security.- Impacts of TEI on SMEs.- Risk Assessment of TEI on TEISME.- Methodology.- Analysis of Results.- Critical Evaluation and Discussion.- Conclusion.- Index.

Out of the technological battlefield of World War II came a team of gifted German engineers and designers who developed the vengeance weapon, the V-2, which evolved into the peaceful, powerful Saturn V rocket to take men to the Moon. David Woods tells the exciting story, starting from America's post war astronautical research facilities, that used the V-2 for the development of the robust, resilient and reliable Saturn V launcher. He describes the initial launches through manned orbital spaceflights, comprehensively detailing each step, including computer configuration, the role of ground control, trajectory planning, lunar orbiting, separation of the lander, walking and working on the Moon, retrieval of the lunar astronauts and returning to Earth in this massive technical accomplishment. TOC:Apollo's birth.- Saturn cometh.- Launch - a fiery departure.- Earth orbit.- Translunar injection.- Retrieving the lander.- Navigating to the moon.- Coasting to the moon.- Entering lunar orbit - the LOI manoeuvre.- Next stop - the Moon.- Orbital sojourn - doing science from a spacecraft.- Rendezvous and docking.- Heading for home - the TEI manoeuvre.
